The Reason You’re Into Bondage Could Be Because Of Your Cat

Depositphotos_dominatrix_smallOwning a cat can lead to some serious friskiness, according to research in the journal Evolutionary Psychology. Apparently, cat owners could get into BDSM from a brain parasite they’ve picked up from their pet, toxoplasmosis. Even though it sounds far-fetched, toxoplasmosis has been linked to sadomasochistic behavior in humans.

Toxoplasmosis Gondii infects billions of people (about a third of the world’s population) and is often transmitted from pet cats—spread through contact with faeces,” reports UK News Yahoo. Using a questionnaire, researchers collected data from 36,564 people in Slovakia and the Czech Republic—741 of whom were infected—and found that people with toxoplasmosis “expressed higher attraction to bondage, violence, zoophilia, fetishism, and, in men, also to masochism, and raping and being raped.” The study’s lead author said that the parasite “succeeds in using the fact that sex-related stimuli and fear-related stimuli affect very similar circuits in the brain. Even without Toxoplasma, there will be some relationship between fear and sex.” So, if you suddenly have an itch to get kinky, your feisty kitty could have something to do with it!
