Wendy Weiss is a seasoned, beloved stripper in Portland, Oregon—who is also a comedian! While she admits “you definitely piss off a lot more people doing comedy than showing them your vagina,” she still boldly straddles being both a comedian and a stripper. Not only that, but by stripping and telling jokes, she’s changing the way female comics talk about sex.
She hosts a monthly show that has comics take off their clothes while trying to make people laugh. She explains that comedy got her through her early days of stripping, when she was such a bad dancer that she “would just plop down and tell jokes.” Now as a stripper comedian, she’s trying to normalize sex, and talk about it in a way that challenges stereotypes: “Sex is either portrayed as sad because they don’t have it, or women are sluts because they do,” Weiss says. “I’ll be like, ‘So I was having sex and this weird thing happened,’ or, ‘This lady said something super-racist at an orgy, isn’t that weird?’” Wendy Weiss really can do it all on a stage!
