Everyone is talking about one very steamy topic in J.K. Rowling’s upcoming Blu-ray release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and that is Dumbledore’s sexuality. According to the Radio Times, Rowling weighs in on the “sexual dimension” of Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship. Here’s a direct quote from the film’s special features:
“Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship. I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship.” Obviously, sex won’t feature prominently in the upcoming movie, but fans—particularly LGBTQ fans—are curious to know whether Dumbledore will be portrayed as a gay man. As Daily Dot says, “People are invested in this idea because it’s rare to see queer characters in mainstream blockbusters, and Rowling has drawn a lot of attention to Dumbledore’s sexuality without actually exploring it in the text of the movies.”
