A French researcher is trying to change how sex education is taught by introducing a new hands-on instrument: the first open-source, anatomically correct, printable 3-D clitoris. The 3-D educational tool was created with the hope of familiarizing students with the clit. “The quality of sex education in France has never been properly evaluated, but the few surveys that do exist suggest it’s very poor,” the clit-creator told Vice.
The team wants to give the clit—which is so often misunderstood and ignored—the same attention as the dick. The clit is actually very similar to the dick: it also swells when aroused, and even experiences its own type of “erection.” It is a very sensitive area, with 8,000 sensitive nerve endings, so with this in mind, it is not a surprise that most women require clitoral stimulation to achieve orgasm.
