The security guards at sex parties are there to enforce a different set of rules. A consent monitor is a trained member of staff whose job is separate from standard security roles—their main aim is to monitor the welfare of guests at sex clubs. Speaking to VICE, a group of monitors revealed how they ensure everyone is sticking to pre-designated rules and “having fun.”
Policing sex has included interrupting BDSM scenes to check if everyone is happy to kicking out men for staring at groups of lesbians. One consent monitor revealed that the most common violation is people overstepping boundaries and going too far—citing one example where he threw a guy out for trying to initiate sex when only oral sex had been agreed to. On another occasion, he had to throw a man out because he grabbed a woman’s hair while she was “playing with another woman.”
