A female prison psychologist admitted to being in a sexual relationship with a former incarcerated patient. The pair hooked up after he contacted her upon his release. Within two months of his getting out, they were in an “intimate and sexual relationship,” which continues to this day.
The Australian Psychological Society’s code of ethics says psychologists must not “engage in sexual activity with a former client … within two years after terminating the professional relationship with the former client.” The psychologist had been supported in a hearing by her boss, who claimed she knew full well she was sleeping with a former client when she hired her. The naughty psychologist was let off easy with a reprimand—the board refused to suspend her registration or impose further conditions.
