Norwegian researchers found women experience higher levels of “sexual regret,” meaning they’re more likely to wish they hadn’t hooked up with a random person—but they still don’t feel bad enough about it to change their behavior next time.
Researchers believe this is because of the power of women’s high sex drive. The experts found little evidence that sexual regret is “functional,” or in other words, it doesn’t really contribute to any real change in behavior. “We are not that surprised,” said study’s author. “For the most part, people continue with the same sexual behavior and the same level of regret.”
