Almost half of people who sleep in separate beds from their partner credit their sleeping situation for a “rejuvenated” relationship, while a fifth say it’s led to a healthier sex life, a new poll found. The survey of 2,000 Americans, by market research firm OnePoll, found that 82 percent say their partner’s sleeping habits keep them up at night, which affects them sexually. The poll found that 21 percent of couples who live together are “sleep divorced,” meaning they sleep in separate beds—and sometimes bedrooms—to improve their sex lives.
“This is why couples say one of their most satisfying sexual experiences is when they go on vacation [because] they get time to rest,” one sexpert explained. A sleep scientist with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine said the trend is catching on because people realize “there are sexual benefits for some partners to sleep separately.” Sleeping separately has become a hot topic lately, with social media posts talking about sleep divorce and how it has saved relationships garnering millions of views.
