We’ve seen some interesting “slutty” Halloween costumes, but this latest one is maybe the strangest yet: a sexy handmaid costume, inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale. The Halloween costume was depicted on Yandy.com as a bright red mini dress and cape with high heels—a far cry from the red cloak and white bonnet worn by the oppressed women in the dystopian novel and Hulu series. Obviously, Twitter had a lot to say about the costume, which led to Yandy removing it and issuing an apology.
One Twitter user aptly said, “Great moments in self-satire.” Another quipped, “When you have a protest at the Capitol at 4 and happy hour plans at 5.” Still others wondered if maybe it was intentional: “is it wrong if i think the slutty handmaid’s tale costume is accidentally brilliant and subversive despite that not being the intention behind it at all.” Luckily, there are a lot of other slutty Halloween costumes to choose from!
