A new study discovered a very surprising fact: sometimes men don’t feel happy after sex. Past research has found that post-coital dysphoria—the experience of sadness, crying, anxiety, or irritability after otherwise hot sex—can affect some women. But this latest study is the first time the strange condition has been documented in men.
Researchers surveyed more than 1,200 men from several different countries, finding that 41 percent had experienced symptoms of post-coital dysphoria, though only 4 percent experienced symptoms with any regularity. The study says that the range of emotions after sex include “not wanting to be touched, a desire to be left alone or to leave the room, and feeling unsatisfied, annoyed and fidgety.” Researchers still don’t understand the phenomenon, but explain “the male experience of sex can be far more varied and complex than previously thought.”
