Adults in the United Kingdom might need to buy more than just cigarettes and condoms at their local corner store…if they want to watch porn, that is. New age verification laws set to be implemented later this year would require anyone who wants to view pornographic websites to buy a “porn pass” from the corner store. The U.K. is cracking down on underage porn watching, which is why it wants to require the estimated 25 million citizens who regularly visit adult websites to prove they’re not underage.
These passes will cost around $14. To prove their age, buyers will have to present a passport or driver’s license to the shopkeeper. “A wide variety of online age verification solutions exist, or are in development, and they will have to abide by these high standards,” said a spokesperson. Way to live up to your stuffy, prudish stereotype, the U.K.
