Females who enjoy being tied to the bed or whipped during sex are less moved when they see others in pain and even find it arousing, according to a study published in the journal Neuropsychologia. Experts believe that submissives are desensitized to pain in general, and when viewing it in BDSM contexts, get really turned on.
The study showed submissive women pictures of other women who had pained expressions, some in BDSM contexts. BDSM submissives not only did not react to the pain but were also aroused. Researchers believe that submissives see pained expressions as less of a threat due to them being willing to be in discomfort themselves during sex.
