American photographer Jebediah Johnson’s newest artistic endeavor, the Makeout Project, has him putting on lipstick, kissing hot strangers, and documenting the smudges. Johnson explains in the Guardian that he liked the idea of lipstick marks as a powerful, erotic symbol, and that he also liked the idea of getting to kiss hot strangers he desired. A win-win situation, no? At first, he mostly photographed sexy women he fantasized having lipstick smeared all over their faces and necks. But then he started kissing sexy men, which lead to unexplored, sultry experiences—lipstick stains on the shirt collar, exciting and unexpected moments of passion in which the subjects would take over.
Some of the portraits can get pretty racy: sexy images of women biting their lips seductively or sensuously looking into the camera as if into a lover’s eyes with whom she’d like to strip naked and overpower right then and there. And when asked if there’s ever an erotic charge between Johnson and his subjects, he says definitely, yes: “A few times it’s got really real for me; there’s some where I was probably like oh that was nice, and they’re thinking oh that was incredible, I don’t know what to do now. The different levels are very interesting.”
What a cool, sexy project! Those lipstick stains all over those eager stranger’s faces is so hot! Who’s hankering for a little naughty lipstick smear on their collar? We’ve got the perfect shade of red right here.
